How to play Deuces Wild video poker

  1. Bet and get five cards.
  2. Choose which cards to hold.
  3. Draw new cards for the rest.
  4. Get paid by the pay table. Every deuce (two) counts as any card, and the lowest paying hand is three of a kind.

A deuce plus a pair, like a deuce with two jacks, is already three of a kind – hold all three and draw two.

Full pay Deuces Wild returns 100.76% with perfect play over a very long run – such machines are rare in casinos. NSUD (Not So Ugly Deuces) returns 99.73%, so the house keeps a small edge.

Short sessions swing a lot either way, and most real machines pay less than both tables. Compare more tables on video poker pay tables.

Deuces Wild strategy on real hands

  • Two deuces, seven, nine, king of mixed suits – hold the two deuces only and draw three.
  • Deuce with five, six, seven and eight of hearts – the deuce makes a straight flush, so hold all five.
  • Ten, jack, queen, king of spades and a four of diamonds – hold the four spades for a natural royal draw and throw the four of diamonds.
  • Two eights, king, four, three, no deuce – hold the two eights; a single king is worth nothing here.

Before you click Draw, check that every deuce in your hand is held.

Questions

What is Deuces Wild poker?

Deuces Wild is a video poker game where all four deuces are wild and can stand for any card. Because hands are easier to make, the lowest paying hand is three of a kind instead of a pair.

What is the payback of full pay Deuces Wild?

Full pay Deuces Wild returns 100.76% with perfect strategy over a very long run, while NSUD returns 99.73%. Full pay machines are rare, and short sessions can still lose.

Should you ever discard a deuce in Deuces Wild?

No. A deuce is a wild card, so the correct strategy always keeps every deuce you are dealt.

What is the difference between a wild royal and a natural royal?

A wild royal uses at least one deuce, while a natural royal has no deuces at all. The natural royal pays far more, 800 per coin at max coins.

Is a pair a winning hand in Deuces Wild?

No, a pair alone pays nothing because three of a kind is the lowest paying hand. You still often hold a pair, since it can improve on the draw.
