House edge per bet decided (pushes not counted), exact math from the dice.
- Pass / Come – pays even money, house edge 1.41%. Wins on seven or eleven and loses on two, three or twelve on the come-out. After that, the point must roll before a seven
- Don't Pass / Don't Come – pays even money, house edge 1.36%. The twelve on the come-out is a push
- Odds on 4 or 10 – pays 2 to 1, no house edge
- Odds on 5 or 9 – pays 3 to 2, no house edge
- Odds on 6 or 8 – pays 6 to 5, no house edge

Why the odds bet has no house edge
Example: the point is six. There are 5 ways to roll a six and 6 ways to roll a seven.
The odds bet pays exactly 6 to 5, so over time the wins and losses match the real chances. More on the dice math: dice probability.
Place, buy and lay payouts
- Place 6 or 8 – pays 7 to 6 (true odds 6 to 5), edge 1.52%
- Place 5 or 9 – pays 7 to 5 (true odds 3 to 2), edge 4.00%
- Place 4 or 10 – pays 9 to 5 (true odds 2 to 1), edge 6.67%
- Buy 4 or 10 – true odds minus a commission on the win, edge 1.67%
- Lay 4 or 10 – bets the seven rolls first, commission on the win, edge 1.67%
- Big 6 / Big 8 – pays even money, edge 9.09%
Place bets and hardways are off on the come-out roll by default, so a seven then does not take them.
Field, hardways and proposition bets
- Field – even money, double on two, triple on twelve – edge 2.78%; if twelve pays only double – edge 5.56%
- Hard 6 / Hard 8 – edge 9.09%
- Hard 4 / Hard 10 – edge 11.11%
- Any 7 – edge 16.67%
- Any craps – edge 11.11%
- Yo 11 – edge 11.11%
- Aces / Twelve – edge 13.89%
- Horn – edge 12.50%; C&E – edge 11.11%
The center bets have the biggest payouts and also the biggest house edge – see prop bets.
"To one" vs "for one"
Read the small word on the layout before you bet: "for" pays one unit less profit than "to" with the same number.
"To one" – you get the win plus your bet back. "For one" – the printed amount already includes your bet.
Center bets are often printed "for one", so they look bigger than they are.
Adding odds lowers the house edge
- Pass Line alone – 1.41%
- Pass Line + three-four-five times odds – 0.37% on all money in play
- Pass Line + ten-times odds – 0.18%
The odds part has no edge, but the Pass Line still does, so the house edge still wins over time – see craps strategy.
