The baccarat squeeze is a slow card reveal for suspense – the card is already fixed, and bending it changes nothing.
Why baccarat players bend the cards
In some casinos, the player with the biggest bet on Player or Banker gets the cards face down. They bend and peel each card slowly, side by side, until the pips show the value.
The point is suspense. The card was set when the shoe was shuffled, so the squeeze only decides how slowly you see it. See the full baccarat rules for how hands are dealt.
A squeeze, card by card
- Banker shows a six and a two – a total of eight.
- Player shows a three. The second card comes face down to the squeezer.
- Peel the long side: one column of three pips. It could be a six, seven or eight.
- Peel the middle: no center pip. It is a six.
- Player total: three plus six = nine. Nine beats eight – Player wins.
Does the squeeze change the result?
No. The six was the six before anyone touched it. Squeezing, blowing on the card or shouting at it has no effect.
The Banker bet has a house edge of 1.06% whether the cards are squeezed slowly or flipped fast.

Why casinos replace the cards after a squeeze
A squeezed card stays bent or creased. In the next shoe, someone could spot that bent card face down and know its value – that is a marked card.
At squeeze tables, the casino throws out the used cards and opens new decks for the next shoe.
