Progressive jackpots

A progressive jackpot is a prize that grows with every bet until one spin wins it – here is where that money comes from.

How a progressive jackpot grows

  1. You place a bet on the slot.
  2. Most of the bet goes into the regular game.
  3. A small slice goes to the jackpot meter, and the meter goes up.
  4. Many players keep betting, so the meter keeps rising.
  5. One spin hits the jackpot combination and wins the meter amount.
  6. The meter drops back to its starting amount and grows again.

Standalone vs linked machines

  • Standalone – one machine feeds its own meter.
  • Local link – a group of machines in one room feeds one shared meter.
  • Wide-area link – many machines in many places feed one meter.

More linked machines make the meter grow faster and bigger. Your chance on each spin stays tiny – it is set by the game's odds, and linking more machines makes the prize bigger but does not improve your odds on any spin.

A big meter does not mean the jackpot is "due" – every spin is random and independent of the last one.

Where the jackpot money comes from

Example: two slots show the same RTP. The plain slot pays all of that return as regular wins; the progressive slot moves part of it into the jackpot, so its regular wins are smaller.

The RTP shown for a progressive game includes the jackpot share. If you never hit the jackpot, the part you actually get back tends to be lower than the shown RTP. Read more on slot RTP.

Treat the jackpot slice as part of the cost of each spin, not as money you are likely to get back.

Questions

How do progressive jackpots work?

A small part of every bet goes to a jackpot meter that keeps growing. When one spin hits the jackpot combination, it wins the meter amount, and the meter resets to its starting amount.

Do progressive slots pay back less?

The base game usually pays back less, because part of the return goes into the jackpot. The RTP shown includes that jackpot share, so players who never hit it tend to get back less than the shown number.

Is a progressive jackpot due to hit when it gets very big?

No. Every spin is random and independent, so a large meter does not make the next spin more likely to win. A big meter only shows that many bets have gone in without a jackpot hit.

What is the difference between standalone and linked progressive slots?

A standalone progressive feeds its own meter from one machine. Linked progressives share one meter across many machines, so the jackpot grows faster, but your chance on each spin is still set by the game's odds and stays tiny.

Do the slots on SimSino Hub have a progressive jackpot?

No. Our three slots pay their whole return through regular wins, for example 96.15% for Brass Bells, with no jackpot meter.
